We went to Joe's on a sunday last trip and felt kind of old at age We hang at the Jungle Juice for the most part, have never been able to sit at either Tonys or Gus y Gus for more than one set, can't really say why, just not for us I guess. What time does the action usually start at these places? We will be there for our honeymoon in 38 days and plan on heading to Gus y Gus the first night.
Although the "action" at the very north-of-the-border tourist restaurant-bars usually starts about 8 PM give or take, but most of the ones where locals go don't get rolling until 10 to 11 PM.
Which ones would you consider "north-of-the-border" and which ones to the locals frequent? Generally, the places the younger folks hang out like Joe's Oyster Bar , Bora Bora or any of the discos are the places that don't get going until late and keep going until the very early morning hours.
Places are frequented by a different crowd at different times of the year but those mentioned are consistently not the 18 year old crowd. Heathers and Purple Onion have a mix of live Mexican and 'English' entertainment depends what nites you are there.
Jungle Juice has more Mexican music with English sets thrown in. Gus y Gus have a house band that play a lot of 70s and 80s music. Tonys is a mix of both with live bands as well. All of them have dance areas. Gus y Gus is a excellent place for a mellow time, Im not sure about the new one but the old one Near Ricos Cafe has great people in it including the bar tenders and waiters. They sometimes have live entertainment which is really awesome and good people also gather around the bar for good conversation.
